Derek is a pacman frog (Ceratophrys) who lives by the reeds on the far side of the pond. He is considered the most dangerous resident of the pond, primarily due to his indiscriminate diet and complete lack of social boundaries.
Derek is approximately the size of a large fist and consists mostly of mouth. He does not move frequently, preferring to remain stationary and wait for things to come to him. This strategy is remarkably effective.
diet
Derek will eat anything that enters his radius. Documented meals include flies, beetles, small frogs (not Frogbert, so far), pond debris, and at least one shoe. The shoe's owner has never come forward. Researchers have noted this may be because the owner was also eaten.
behaviour
Derek does not socialise. He does not attend pond events. He has never been seen at a rave. He simply sits and processes the world through his digestive system. Several pond residents describe a sense of deep philosophical calm when observing Derek, though most observe from a safe distance.
Frogbert does not visit Derek's side of the pond. He respects Derek but does not wish to become part of Derek's diet statistics.
